Spend a pleasant afternoon in a small group tour visiting a beautiful garden and then enjoying an informative sake tasting in a fun, casual setting. After meeting at a major train station, we will walk a few minutes to a garden that was first built by samurai in the 17th century and once owned by Japan’s Imperial Family. Next we will go to the observatory deck of a skyscraper in the area for a view of Tokyo’s vast expanse. At our next stop we will enjoy a stand-up sake tasting choosing from among 40 varieties. Choose from dry or fruity sake, sakes of different quality grades, and different regions of Japan. From there we’ll move by a short subway ride to the sumo stadium where you can enjoy the competition.

Our morning starts with a visit to a Buddhist temple founded in 1703 in an old part of Tokyo. We will briefly tour the temple and watch up close a dramatic purification ceremony with powerful drumming, chanting and a bonfire. You can even have your bag blessed over the healing smoke.

Purified and energised by the ceremony, we will move to a classic garden that uses rocks, water and plants to reflect all of nature. You can’t help feel serene and contemplative in this beautiful and historic place. Next we’ll move to a charming indoor recreation of an Edo neighbourhood that you can walk around in, visiting shops and homes and seeing how people lived in that period and how many of the aspects of today’s Japanese daily culture were present then. From there we’ll move by a short subway ride to the sumo stadium where you can enjoy the competition.
